Texas-Europe size compansion
this changes everything oh my god
suddenly it makes sense why out-of-country people ask what part of the USA i’m from
omfg, Luxembourg is basically the size of the Tarrant/Dallas counties put together.
seriously???
Hooooly crap. That’s sorta terrifying.
Ohhh this is nice. Hopefully this helps people understand why I don’t hesitate to remark that different portions of Texas are different from others (and why the prospect of driving somewhere doesn’t phase me until you tell me it’ll take about 12 hours, 12 is getting a bit long even for me).
Other fun factoid: it takes longer to drive from Houston to El Paso than it does Houston to Chicago. As in Chicago, Illinois.
^^^^^
AAAAAAUGH.
And people wonder why I get angry about there not being more trains in America. Seriously, it’s so ass backwards. OH LOOK ONE OF OUR STATES IS LARGER THAN MAINLAND EUROPE AND WE STILL REFUSE TO EMPLOY A SENSIBLE AND EFFICIENT WAY FOR PEOPLE TO TO GET THEMSELVES ACROSS OUR COUNTRY BECAUSE WE THINK IT’S TO “SNOBBISH” AND “EUROPEAN.”
NO FUCKING GET OVER YOURSELF, AMERICA IS HUGE.
California has a similar thing, lengthwise anyway. Put the southern border of CA on Rome, and the northern border hits around Amsterdam. So it always cracks me up when non-USians ask me stuff about SoCal. It’s like a 10-hour drive, I don’t go there much, I don’t know shit all about that region of the state. o.0
