Monty Python: Forever Informing Our Culture And Making Us Point And Laugh Every Damn Time.I feel kind of… um… dumb. But I sense it is more my literalist nature. I didn’t really understand Monty Python until a few years ago. I seem to be about ten years behind my peers in the understanding of absurdity and metaphor. But I think Fleetwood Mac songs are about what they say they are too. So you know.
Now I want to ask you if the refrain of “You’re So Vain” bothers you as much as it does me.
I dont think I know the song. I’m really bad at pop culture
Ah. It’s a Carly Simon song that goes “You’re so vain, you probably think this song is about you.” And she actually did write it about one specific person who was in her life (there was a whole big It’s A Secret To Everybody mythos about it), and ever since I learned that she’s got a specific person she’s talking to hearing the song sends my brain into a loop.
Because there are multiple men who think the song is about them, and they’re wrong, so maybe it is vain of them to think that. But she’s not talking about them. She’s talking to this one person, and if he thinks the song is about him, that’s not vanity, that’s… accuracy.
He’s so perceptive, he’s probably noticed this song is about him.
