It’s actually “Mehm”, as it’s derived from the term “Mnemonic device”. But, people seem to have built a word out of something they have no idea about.
I always thought it was “Mehm” but I say it as “Meem” sometimes.
It’s not short for “mnemonic device.” It was coined by Richard Dawkins and “meem” is the correct pronunciation.
Yes. It’s the same root as “memory”, but it’s supposed to sound like a long E because it’s meant to be a parallel to “gene”.
Edit To Add: Also, how the heck does the person above think “Mnemonic device is pronounced” if they got “mehm” out of it?
