Popular slut club: Hey, it's great that so many people on the "Holmies" tag are determined to see due process done and give James Holmes...
Really. It does my cynical heart good to see so many civic-minded young people taking to heart the importance of the Constitution and its guarantees and all that, but here are some facts:
One, the case against James Holmes is actually pretty good. It’s a bit inconvenient for…
Edit so I’m reblogging this…. please, please, please stop making this case as a way to prove (insert blank social issue).
I say this as someone whose friend was shot by him, and another friend saved her life. Maybe, as a society, we need to sometimes focus on the CRIME and the people involved and now how it can be used as an example to prove our opinions right. I say this as a blanket statement because I do not think anyone is intentionally trying to be disrespectful, but as someone who is close to this case, who lives in Denver, who knew people in that theatre that night… Please. Think about the people trying to overcome this. Not about how it compares to other things…. it really does take away the impact of the true crime. And honestly, I’m extremely proud of Aurora authorities for doing their job extremely well. I’m not always a fan of police, but in this tragedy, it’s amazing how quickly and correctly so many different people/departments/organizations worked together.
My post is addressed to people who spend their time and energy professing James Holmes’s innocence or protesting their perception of his treatment by the legal system. If you think that me pointing out that there are people who need this kind of attention more than he does is disrespectful to the victims… well, I’m not actually going to argue with you, but it doesn’t change my mind about the post.
