Pro-woman = hateful and bigoted… apparently.
I was vaguely supportive of trans* until I went online to thank Mary Daly for her brilliant, inspiring, comforting writing, and found many, many trans-supporters gleefully celebrating her recent death. This woman was one of the greatest ever intellectual defenders of womankind!
Mary Daly is not criticized by trans* women and our allies for the things she did that benefited cis women, or for her position as pro-woman (for her definition of woman), but for the things she did that were anti-trans*. She was pro (cis) woman and hateful and bigoted.
If you expected trans* people to be soooo happy for you having a defender that we don’t care what anyone does to us, you were never actually supportive of trans* rights. You just hadn’t ever had to think about the extent to which you didn’t support us before, which allowed you to imagine you were supportive because it’s nice to feel like a nice person.
Now you’ve found a way to hate us while still feeling like a good person. That’s what “peak trans” actually means: the moment when someone figures out how to rationalize giving into patriarchal, heteronormative trans*-hate and convince themselves it’s a radical/progressive/feminist act.
